October | Healing

The following resources were gratefully shared at the OneLight Gathering on Friday 13th October 2017 at London's monthly Interfaith Ceremony, generously hosted at Notting Hill's Essex Unitarian Church.

St Francis and The Sow
by Galway Kinnell

The bud
stands for all things,
even those things that don’t flower,
for everything flowers, from within, of self-blessing;
though sometimes it is necessary
to reteach a thing its loveliness,
to put a hand on [the] brow
of the flower
and retell it in words and in touch
it is lovely
until it flowers again from within, of self-blessing.

The Avowal
by Denise Levertov

As swimmers dare
to lie to face the sky
and water bears them,
as hawks rest upon air
and air sustains them,
so would I learn to attain
freefall, and float
into Creator Spirit’s deep
knowing no effort earns
that all-surrounding grace.

Last Night As I Lay Sleeping
by Antonio Mahcado

Last night as I lay sleeping,
I dreamt—O marvelous error!—
that a spring was breaking
out in my heart.
I said: Along which secret aqueduct,
Oh water, are you coming to me,
water of a new life
that I have never drunk?

Last night as I lay sleeping,
I dreamt—O marvelous vision!—
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart.
And the golden bees
were making white combs
and sweet honey
from my old failures.

Last night as I lay sleeping,
I dreamt—O marvelous vision!—
that a fiery sun was giving
light inside my heart.
It was fiery because I felt
warmth as from a hearth,
and sun because it gave light
and brought tears to my eyes.

Last night as I slept,
I dreamt—O marvelous vision!—
that it was God I had
here inside my heart.

For each gathering we make available a playlist of the music used throughout the ceremony. You can listen to and follow these playlist on Spotify:
