February | Balance

Balance naturally ebbs and flows in our lives and moments of imbalance are often as helpful and necessary as moments of balance. We explored what it was like to sing into and out of harmony and discord. We shared and journaled about what balance and imbalance are for us personally before we co-created a “Balancing Beast Of Beauty” made of reflections for balance in our world. How gorgeous it was to be absorbed in the process of creating this prayer-sculpture. We used oils to offer ourselves a blessing for those parts of us that perhaps need kind attention, patience, understanding or love. The Balancing Beast Of Beauty sculpture was later ritually burned and released into the air with all of its hopes and blessings sent out into our world.

The following resources were gratefully shared at the OneLight Gathering on Friday 9th February 2018 at London's monthly Interfaith Ceremony, generously hosted at Notting Hill's Essex Unitarian Church.

Blessing by John O’Donohue

On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.

And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets into you,
may a flock of colours,

indigo, red, green
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought

and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.

And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.
